Did you know that mindfulness (despite the name) begins in the body?
This is the first foundation of Mindfulness. Mindfulness of the body. We all have a body. Or we are a body.
The mind is locked up in a dark vault (the thick skull you and me have), and can only get input sent through nerves that gets its input through our sense doors, in the body.
We make contact with the world through our eyes, ears, mouth, nose and skin. And, actually in the Eastern Way of looking, also the mind is a sense door.
Thoughts take the shape of images, projected onto the mind’s eye, or images, like an onboard radio. Sometimes we catch a thought just as it starts to poke its head up, but more often, we only catch it once its there in its full glory (or horror). And usually, we don’t catch our thoughts at all. We get immediately tangled up with them, identified and swept away. And this is the proliferation of suffering.
Of anxiety, worry. comparison. Of wanting things to be different. Of wanting in general.
So, getting clarity and peace of mind is all about powering down, relaxing. This starts with the body.
Here is a flow that (hopefully) will support that letting go.
